SINS OF COFFEE - MAIN PAGE

This site is an archive of some of the material from the printed version of the 13 issues of SINS OF COFFEE, which were originally published between 1987 and 1996.

HISTORY of SINS OF COFFEE

SINS OF COFFEE, a magazine of melancholy humours, has been in existence since 1987 when Mordantia Bat, the editor-in-chief and publisher, grew weary of accumulating rejection slips from other 'zines that too often said, "Your writing is good, but it's too weird."

Not understanding what was wrong with weird, she decided to start her own 'zine. And so it was born.

The first issue was pasted up by hand, using dot-matrix galleys and some rather murky art. Most material presently here has appeared previously in the printed version of SINS OF COFFEE.

CAFFEINATING ART HISTORY:

Kallisti, who is currently one of Mordantia Bat's cohorts on Sepulchritude, was art editor for SINS OF COFFEE during its stint. Kallisti did all the cover art since Issue #6 as well as many of other pieces of art for it — such as the ones hovering near this paragraph and Bat's all-time favorite (which is why it's our mascot and logo) — Marat "at rest" in his coffee cup bath.

More of her art can be seen on her site, Chapel Perilous, which also includes her Sins of Coffee gallery of art from the old printed issues.

OTHER PROJECTS

See the section OTHER WRITING for more about SINS OF COFFEE, including other projects and writing by many of the same people who put together the original issues SINS OF COFFEE. Their current 'zine project is called SUFFERING IS HIP.
